Dudley Council offers Freedom of the Borough to local heroes ahead of World Cup semi-final
Footballers Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers among recipients
Dudley Council has honoured local football heroes, Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers, by adding them to its Freedom of the Borough list as England prepares for the World Cup semi-final.
At a council meeting on 13th July, members approved the conferment of the borough’s highest civic honour on Armed Forces Veterans, community champions, and dedicated public servants.
Freedom of the Borough will be offered to Councillor Shaukat Ali, former Dudley College CEO Lowell Williams, Priory Park Boxing Club, and footballers Jude Bellingham and Morgan Rogers, who are currently representing England in the World Cup.
Additionally, former Councillor Michael Evans will be named Honorary Alderman for his long service to local government.
The Freedom of the Borough has previously recognised notable figures including Sir Lenny Henry and Royal Navy veteran Joe Bullock.
Councillor Patrick Harley, Leader of Dudley Council, commented:
"The Freedom of the Borough is the highest honour we can bestow, and it is reserved for those whose service, achievements and dedication have made an exceptional contribution to our borough and its people."
"This year's recipients represent the very best of Dudley, from armed forces veterans to community champions, sporting role models and committed public servants."
The formal presentations of these honours will occur at a civic ceremony later this year, acknowledging the exceptional contributions of each recipient to the wider community.
The council's decision underscores the impactful achievements of individuals and organisations, highlighting their roles in shaping Dudley’s narrative and inspiring future generations.
