'Chips, football, local pride - what's not to love?': Dudley artist on Bellingham and Rogers mural
Dion Kitson is behind a new mural of the two footballers tucking into some orange chips in their England shirts
The artist behind a new mural of England's two Black Country stars from this year's World Cup squad said he wanted to show the players some hometown love.
A mural featuring Jude Bellingham, who's from Stourbridge, and Halesowen's Morgan Rogers, tucking into some orange chips appeared on the side of a chippy in Quinton on Saturday.
It's the work of Dudley artist Dion Kitson, who has previously gone viral for creating a similar mural of Sam Allardyce last year.
"I wanted to showcase just how proud the Black Country and Birmingham are for the boys at the world cup," Dion said.
"Chips, football, local pride - what's not to love?"
The news of the mural has made it across the pond, with Rodgers posting a picture of it following England's 2-1 victory over Norway in the quarter finals.
Dion added: "I'm genuinely so happy knowing that they've seen it and enjoyed it in the England camp - it's wonderful."
The artwork is on the side of Classic Fryer near Hagley Road West.
Dion said his phone has been "on fire" since he completed the piece and that the reaction has been fantastic.
As well as wanting the world to know where Bellingham and Rodgers come from, Dion also wanted the Black County's iconic delicacy to get some recognition.
When asked about the inclusion of the orange chips, he said: "The world needs to know about them."
What are orange chips?
While a quintessential dish in the Black Country, most people in the country, let alone the world, aren't familiar with orange chips.
What sets orange chips apart from regular chips from the chip shop is the cooking process.
Orange chips are coated in a in batter with seasonings (typically turmeric or paprika) before being fried - giving them their distinctive taste and colour.
In extreme cases, food dye may even be used to create to most vibrant of orange chips!
