The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging clients of a Wolverhampton aesthetics company, who received ‘vampire facials’, to contact them to arrange free blood tests, due to concerns about the risk of bloodborne viruses.

People who received the platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment at Olivia’s Aesthetics are being urged to contact UKHSA infection control experts for a precautionary blood test.

It comes after the UKHSA, City of Wolverhampton Council, and Black Country Integrated Care Board (ICB) identified inadequate cleaning of equipment used for this treatment at the clinic.

The agency said, while the risk of contracting bloodborne viruses such as Hepatitis B and C, or HIV is considered low, testing is being offered as a precautionary measure.

We contacted Olivia’s Aesthetics in Wolverhampton who refused to comment, but the UKHSA confirmed it no longer offers vampire facial treatment.

"you have the right to change your mind"

In a statement the UKHSA said: "Blood test results can take up to two weeks to process. If you receive a positive result, you will be referred for appropriate treatment and support.

"The investigation relates specifically to Olivia’s Aesthetics in Wolverhampton and not to any other businesses of the same name elsewhere."

Councillor Bhupinder Ghakal, the council’s Cabinet Member for Resident Services, said “Aesthetics procedures are becoming increasingly popular on the high street, and we recommend that anyone considering a treatment follows a simple checklist.

“Make sure your practitioner is wearing PPE and washing their hands.

"They should carry out a pre-consultation, including an assessment of your medical history and be happy to discuss their qualifications.

"They should also provide you with a consent form on the risks for you to sign.

“Remember, you don’t have to accept treatment on the day of your consultation – and if you have any doubts, you have the right to change your mind.”

Anyone who has received a PRP treatment (vampire facial) at this clinic should contact the UKHSA West Midlands Health Protection Team on 0344 225 3561 – lines will be open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday until Friday 4 July 2025
