Carnival returns to Bilston after 18 years
It's the first carnival in the town since 2008
Bilston Carnival returns to the town today (July 4) for a "bostin’" day of free family fun.
The day will start by honouring the event’s rich history with a 1960s-themed carnival parade – a nod to the decade it first took place.
Then, the parade will move off from Broad Street at 11am, weaving its way through Bilston town centre, and ending in Hickman Park at 12pm, where celebrations will continue until 5pm.
The carnival – last staged in 2008 – is back by popular demand and is free to attend as part of a wider package of events driven by the town’s Pride in Place Regeneration Programme.
Councillor Stephen Simkins, City of Wolverhampton Council Leader and member of the Bilston Pride in Place Board, said: “I, like everyone in Bilston, am really excited for the return of the carnival on Saturday.
“This fantastic free event will bring the community of Bilston and the whole of Wolverhampton together.
“It promises to be a day of celebrating local pride, creativity and community spirit, which is exactly what the Pride in Place programme is aimed at.”
The Bilston Carnival main stage at Hickman Park will host live music entertainment from WolvesStock Revival, Bluebird Belles and Dirty Rockin Scoundrels.
On the Children's stage there will be a comedy magic show, wizard workshop, balloon modelling workshop and interactive story time
There will also be a host of food and drink stalls.
Councillor Simkins added: “Following hot on the heels of the new Bilston Market opening for trade, the carnival marks a milestone week for the town.
“Over the next decade, residents will also see improvements in community facilities, safer public spaces, upgraded high streets, revitalised parks and new opportunities for young people.”
