An event in memory of a University of Worcester student killed in the 2015 Tunisia beach terror attack is taking place today (7 June).

19-year-old Joel Richards, from Wednesbury in Sandwell, died alongside his uncle and grandfather following the attack nearly eleven years ago on the 26 June on a beach near Sousse.

The tenth Run for Joel colour run at Sandwell Valley Country Park gets underway at 9am and sees people taking part in either the 5km, which sets off at 10am, or the 3km, which starts at 11am.

It's been organised by the charity Smile for Joel that was set-up by Joel's brother Owen, who survived the attack, and his mum Suzanne Richards.

"To reach ten runs over ten years it's just amazing," Suzanne said.

"It's just a reflection of the amazing support we get from everyone in our local community, our friends, our family, all the participants, all the volunteers.

"We're so proud of what we've achieved together and we're excited to continue to raise awareness."

Last year the University of Worcester also launched the Joel Richards Scholarship Fund named after their former student to help support students in areas which Joel had a strong interest in.
