Crews tackle field fire in Whittlesey to prevent further spread

On a Sunday afternoon, a field fire broke out on Aliwal Road in Whittlesey, prompting a coordinated response from fire crews across Fenland and Peterborough.
Firefighters from Stanground, Dogsthorpe, March, Thorney, Whittlesey, Wisbech, and the Peterborough Volunteer Brigade rapidly assembled, supported by a specialist 4x4 vehicle from Thorney.
Utilizing hose reels and beaters, the teams worked diligently to extinguish the flames and prevent the fire from spreading further across the field.
Following initial efforts, the incident was scaled down, with fire crews planning to reinspect the area overnight to identify and secure any remaining hotspots.
