A forum is being held in Stamford tonight to plan more support for young people, with organisers appealing for volunteers to help run free activities in the area.

Rose Croft, from Stamford’s art pop up, says there are no free spaces locally where young people can access creative sessions or sports.

“Currently in Stamford, there is nowhere else that young people can go to access an activity based provision for free."

"We know that actually, some of the young people that live in the Stamford area are highly deprived."

"They don't have access to opportunities that a lot of young people have in this area,” she explains.

Rose says more creative activities, sports, and homework help are desperately needed:

“To be able to say, we can put this on, we can do creative activities, give you access to people that can show you sport skills, help with your homework and things like that. It's incredibly valuable."

"These young people have said they want more creative sessions, more opportunities to learn new skills, they want to be able to do sports.”

The group is urging people with skills or hobbies to volunteer their time.

Rose adds, “There are various reports in Stamford area about antisocial behaviour from young people. If there is nothing for young people in this area, of course they've got nowhere to go, of course it's going to be antisocial behaviour. We're not doing anything for them.”
