Spalding will host its annual suicide awareness walk today, inviting the community to unite in support of those facing loss and offering companionship to anyone who may be feeling isolated.

Organised by The Rightside and Ellas Project in partnership with Community Mind Matters, the event welcomes everyone who wants to connect, reflect, and be reminded that support is always available.

People don’t have to go through something like this all on their own

South Holland district councillor, Mark Le Sage, first set up the event in memory of his father, Malcolm, who died by suicide 26 years ago.

The walk aims to create a space for reflection, support, and open conversation on a subject often kept in the shadows.

“It’s difficult, particularly for men, to show their emotions, and sometimes I think that’s why the male suicide rate is higher because men are really rubbish at talking about how they feel,” Mark says.

He adds, “I thought it was important to be able to celebrate his life and also for other people to realise they don’t have to go through something like this all on their own if they’re the family of someone who has taken their own life.”

“It’s really important to me that other people realise they aren’t the only ones to go through it because that’s how I felt when it happened to me.”

The walk will take place in the peaceful grounds of Ayscoughfee Hall and Gardens.

Attendees are invited to meet at Ayscoughfee Cafe at 10.15am, with the walk starting at 10.30am and lasting about 30 minutes.
