Waste collection crews in Rutland will begin their rounds earlier than usual this week due to predicted high temperatures.

From Tuesday 7th July until Friday 10th July, the collection crews will commence their rounds from 6am, an hour earlier than normal, to safeguard workers from the hottest part of the day.

Residents are requested to put their bins and caddies out the night before the collection or ensure they are placed out no later than 6am on collection day.

This change aims to maintain essential services while prioritising the safety of the crew during the anticipated warm spell.

Additionally, residents are advised to take precautions during periods of extreme heat:

  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day
  • Avoid direct sun exposure between 11am and 3pm
  • Seek shade wherever possible
  • Keep homes cool by closing curtains or blinds in sun-facing rooms
  • Look out for vulnerable individuals, including older neighbours, young children, and those with existing health conditions
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles, even for a short time
