Police urging Land Rover drivers in Rutland to be vigilant following rise in theft
Criminals are specifically targeting Defenders
Leicestershire & Rutland Rural Policing Team's urging Land Rover Defender owners to be extra vigilant following a rise in thefts of these vehicles in the local area.
The force says criminals are specifically targeting Defenders due to their high value and demand.
In a statement the force said: "There is clearly a pattern emerging in this type of crime with incidents emerging on the Market Harborough and Lutterworth Police and Melton Police area."
They have issued this advice to those with Land Rovers:
- Use a steering lock and immobilizer
- Install a GPS tracker
- Consider retro fitting
- Park in a secure, well-lit area or garage
- Mark parts with security etching or a unique identifier
Officers are urging anyone who sees anything suspicious or has any information about stolen Defenders to report it to them.
