Peterborough parents urged to act on school applications before deadlines
Local council emphasises the importance of timely submissions
Parents in Peterborough are being encouraged to submit their applications for preferred schools ahead of the upcoming academic year deadlines. Applications for children moving from primary school to secondary school must be submitted by 31st October 2026, with offers to be made on 1st March 2027, known as Secondary National Offer Day.
For children starting at primary or junior schools, the deadline for applications is 15th January 2027, and results will be announced on 16th April 2027, Primary National Offer Day.
Peterborough City Council advises parents to apply online and stresses the importance of submitting applications by the deadlines to increase the likelihood of securing a place at their preferred schools.
Councillor Katy Cole, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, underscores the local demand for school places due to Peterborough's rapid growth, urging parents to apply to catchment schools to optimize chances.
The application process is open for the academic year starting September 2027, and residents are reminded to apply to the correct local authority where they reside and pay Council Tax.
Peterborough City Council coordinates with other local authorities, so parents only need to apply once, even if considering schools outside the immediate area.
To ensure a smooth application process and better outcomes, parents can visit the council's website for further information and to submit their applications.
