Parking areas in Peterborough shut down due to anti-social behaviour
Three-month closure order granted by magistrates
Parking areas in Rivergate, part of Peterborough city centre, have been closed to the public following concerns over anti-social behaviour and related criminal activity.
The Neighbourhood Policing Team (NPT) applied for an open space closure order, which was granted by Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on 21st September.
The order impacts the parking and undercrofts below Burlington House, Churchill House, Admiral House, and Riverview, all located in Viersen Platz.
Access is prohibited for everyone except tenants of the named flats, employees of the management company, and emergency services.
Breaching this order is a criminal offence punishable by up to three months in prison, a fine, or both.
PC Dave Holland from the NPT explained the decision was made in response to concerns primarily about drug-related anti-social behaviour.
“We applied for this order in response to residents’ concerns about anti-social behaviour happening in these areas, particularly associated with drug use. To tackle this issue, we have worked closely with partner agencies and residents, and I hope this result provides them with the reassurance that we are actively listening to them and addressing their concerns.”
Residents are encouraged to report any breaches of the order online at www.cambs.police.uk/report or by calling 101 if they have no internet access.
