A registered sex offender from March has been jailed after sending explicit messages to social media accounts he thought belonged to children.

Christopher Bradshaw, 32, contacted one account in May, which was operated by an online child abuse activist group as a decoy.

Believing he was talking to a 13-year-old schoolgirl, Bradshaw allegedly engaged in sexual conversations and shared his phone number, transferring communication to WhatsApp.

Around the same time, Bradshaw also initiated contact with another decoy account, thinking he was speaking with a 14-year-old. Again, he shared explicit messages and transferred the conversation to WhatsApp.

Although Bradshaw did not use his real name, authorities traced the phone number shared with the accounts back to him. He was arrested and later charged.

On 23rd December, Bradshaw, from March, pleaded guilty at Peterborough Crown Court to charges of inciting a girl aged between 13 and 15 to engage in sexual activity and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.

He was sentenced to six years in prison.

Detective Sergeant Rob Hutchings, from the management of sexual or violent offenders unit (MOSOVO), commented:

“Bradshaw is clearly a risk to children.

Protecting young people from harm is one of our top priorities and we will do all we can to bring offenders to justice.”
