Man jailed for trying to drag woman out of car in Peterborough
The 43-year-old has been sentenced to more than two years
Lee Holliday, 43, has been sentenced to two years and five months in prison after trying to drag a woman from her car outside a Peterborough doctors' surgery.
The incident happened at the Westwood Centre at 1.30pm on 31st July when Holliday ran towards the victim’s car as she was driving out.
The victim stopped, thinking there might be a problem with her car as Holliday chased after her.
Holliday, of Welland Road, Dogsthorpe, Peterborough, immediately entered the vehicle via the rear passenger door and shouted “drive, drive, they’re chasing me,” according to court reports.
When the victim refused to drive and asked Holliday to leave, he exited the vehicle but then attempted to gain control by opening the driver's side door, grabbing the ignition keys, and trying to steer.
During the struggle, Holliday placed his hands around the victim's neck and attempted to pull her out of the car, damaging her shirt and necklace.
The victim's daughter, nearby at the time, intervened to help the victim until police arrived.
The trial concluded at Cambridge Crown Court on 12th February where Holliday was found guilty of common assault.
His sentence also includes the activation of a two-year suspended sentence for supplying class A drugs.
DC Matt Reed, who was involved in the investigation, said: “This was a frightening ordeal for the victim who was targeted at random by Holliday. Hopefully, this will be a wake-up call for him.”
