People can stay safe this winter with free car and bike advice and practical support from Cambridgeshire Constabulary
Drivers and cyclists in Peterborough are being invited to join Cambridgeshire Constabulary for Road Safety Week 2025, with special events aimed at helping everyone stay safe as the weather turns colder.
It is important to do weekly or monthly checks
People can bring their car or bike along for a free safety check and get winter-ready with help from the experts.
As well as free security marking for bikes, people can get a Dr Bike maintenance check to make sure gears, tyres and brakes are ready for winter.
They're also giving out fluorescent and reflective gear on offer to help riders stay safe and seen when it's dark.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary’s teams will also be visiting schools across Peterborough to share important road safety tips.
It is your responsibility to make sure the vehicle's roadworthy at all times of the year
Road safety expert from the force, Adrian Boddington, said:
"One of the main things we tell to check is their tyres. It's a very small surface area between your tyre and the road."
"Obviously, it's going to be slippery to make sure that your tyre's in good order to make sure that you stay safe."
"Check that you've got enough fuel for your immediate journey or intend to fill it up on the way."
"Make sure your lights are working, that your oils at the right level and your water coolant, but really importantly, your screen wash."
"A lot of people that say, I have my vehicle MOT'd every year, so it should be fine."
"It is your responsibility to make sure the vehicle's roadworthy at all times of the year."
"So it is important to do weekly or monthly checks depending on how many miles you're doing, just to make sure that everything as it should be."
The next event will be at Sainsbury’s on Oxney Road on Friday 21st November from ten until two.
