Fire in Peterborough being treated as arson
Cadent engineers are now dealing with a gas leak after the main was damaged
A fire in the early hours has shut down part of Gladstone Street in Peterborough.
Police and fire crews were called out just after four this morning (18 September), and the road is closed after a gas main was damaged.
People are being urged to avoid the area while repairs take place.
Firefighters say the blaze started outside a shop, and it’s thought to have been set on purpose.
The crews from Dogsthorpe tackled flames outside the front of a shop, using hose reels to bring it under control.
Cadent engineers are now dealing with a gas leak after the main was damaged, forcing the road to close off to traffic and pedestrians.
Police believe the fire was started deliberately, and are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crimestoppers.
The street remains cordoned off, with a heavy emergency presence.
