Motorists planning on using the A1 throughout April, May and June are being advised that roadworks are likely to affect opportunities to use the trunk road’s laybys.

According to a notice issued by National Highways, “routine maintenance works” on the A1 will lead to the closure of “any layby situated adjacent to the northbound and southbound carriageways of the A1.”

The southernmost point of the affected area of the A1 will be at Wothorpe, just south of Stamford, where the A43 meets the A1175 (Kettering Road).

The closures will extend from here as far north as Blyth, near Worksop.

The laybys are set to be closed in phases, with those affected being closed off between 1pm and 6 am.

Though the order came into effect yesterday (April 3), the actual closures are not expected to be implemented until Tuesday, April 7.

This will at least ensure that traffic using the vital north-south artery will remain unaffected over the busy Easter Bank Holiday weekend.

National Highways says the restrictions on laybys will be in place “for approximately two months.”
