Dog saved after falling from cliff near Brixham
The dog is now doing well
A dog has been saved after falling from a cliff near Brixham.
Rescuers say the dog was found wet, being splashed by incoming waves on Saturday afternoon - but was still wagging its tail.
The dog is said to be doing well after a vet visit and some stitches.
Brixham Coastguard said on Saturday (06/12): "A challenging rescue for the team on Saturday afternoon.
"At 13:57, Brixham Coastguard Rescue Team was tasked to the Scabbacombe area following a report of a dog that had become separated from its owner and fallen from the cliff.
"As the location was well off the main road, the team drove off road before continuing on foot, carrying rope rescue equipment around 100 metres to the point where the dog had gone over the edge.
"Once set up, a cliff technician was lowered to search the area below.
"By this time our flank team from Torquay had arrived, along with the Coastguard Drone Team to support the search.
"The technician was initially unable to locate the dog, so the drone was deployed to scan the coastline. It soon identified the dog approximately 100 metres further along.
"All equipment was then carefully relocated above the new position, guided by the drone.
"A second cliff technician was lowered through dense bushes and hawthorn to reach the bottom, where they found the dog wet, being splashed by the incoming waves, but still wagging its tail.
"Once secured, the recovery began. Progress was slow as the route back to the top went through thick vegetation, all monitored and illuminated by the drone overhead.
"After a haul of around 180 metres, both technician and dog reached the top safely, where the dog was reunited with a very grateful owner.
"We have since heard, the dog is doing well after a vet vist and some stitches.
