Thames Valley Police have launched an investigation after a 19-year-old man was shot in the arm in Oxford on Friday evening.

Emergency services were contacted just after 5pm on 19th December when the victim arrived for treatment for an arm injury believed to have been caused by a firearm.

The shooting is thought to have occurred between 12pm and 5pm in the vicinity of Denny Gardens, Oxford, and an underpass beneath the railway line between Littlemore and the Kassam Stadium.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains with a non-life-threatening injury. The man reportedly returned home after the incident before seeking medical attention.

Police appeal for witnesses

Thames Valley Police have set up a scene-watch on Priory Road, Littlemore, which includes Denny Gardens, Minchery Farm Cottages, and the footpath beneath the railway line.

Detective Inspector Laura Gardiner from Oxford CID said the investigation is being treated as a priority.

“I appreciate incidents like this will cause concern in the local community, and we are investigating this incident as a top priority,” DI Gardiner said.

“At this time, I believe this to have been a targeted attack and it is likely that the victim and offender are known to each other.

“We have an increased police presence in the area and are conducting house to house and CCTV enquiries.

“I would urge anybody who has any information that can assist this investigation, or who may have dash-cam, CCTV or mobile phone footage, to please contact Thames Valley Police.

“I would like to reiterate that we have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances of this incident, and I would like to reassure the public that although concerning, we do believe this to be an isolated incident.

"I would ask anybody who has any concerns to please address these with officers that are in the area. They are there to investigate, but also to reassure the local community.”

No arrests have been made at this stage.
