Murder investigation launched in Abingdon

Thames Valley Police's Major Crime Unit have launched a murder investigation after a woman's death in Abingdon.

Yesterday at around 2.20pm, Officers were made aware of an unexplained death at a property on Appleford Drive.

A woman in her 80s was found dead. Her next of kin have been informed.

A 36-year-old Abingdon man has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is currently in police custody.

Senior Investigating Officer Stuart Brangwin said: "Firstly, I would like to express my sincere condolences to the family and friends of the victim and I would ask that their privacy is respected, at this distressing time.

"I understand that incidents like this will cause concern in the community but we are investigating the death as a priority and there is an increasedpolice presence in the area.

"At this early stage we do not currently believe there is any threat to the wider public as we have made an arrest and we are not looking for anyone else, at this time.
