A man has been charged with murder following the death of an 88-year-old woman in Abingdon.

Daniel Boore, a 36-year-old of Appleford Drive, has been remanded to appear at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court today.

What happened

Officers were called to an address in Appleford Drive following the death of Jill Gant at around 2.20pm on Thursday 10th September.

Boore was arrested later that day and charged following a Thames Valley Police Major Crime Unit investigation.

Specially trained officers are continuing to support Jill's family.

What police have said

Senior investigating officer Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Brangwin, of the Major Crime Unit, said: "I understand this incident may cause concern in the community.

"Our neighbourhood officers will remain in the area over the coming days and anyone with concerns is encouraged to speak to a uniformed officer.

"Now that a man has been charged, criminal proceedings are active; I would urge people not to speculate online or share information that could prejudice those proceedings."
