A man will face trial later this year accused of murdering a 44-year-old woman.

Nelio Gouveia, 44, appeared at Oxford Crown Court after the discovery of the body of Jennifer Symonds in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, last week.

During a brief hearing before Judge Ian Pringle a seven-day trial was fixed to begin on September 1.

A plea and trial preparation hearing will take place on May 29.

Gouveia, of Phyllis Court Drive, Henley-on-Thames, was not arraigned and was remanded into custody.

Judge Pringle told the defendant: “I am going to adjourn your case until May 29 when you will come back before this court.

“You will be remanded into custody.”

Thames Valley Police launched a murder investigation after being called to Phyllis Court Drive on March 6.

Police said the family of Ms Symonds, from Henley-on-Thames, were being supported by trained officers.

A post-mortem examination showed she died from drowning.
