Appeal following disorder in Oxford city centre

Two groups of men were involved in a fight in Frideswide Square

Police have appealed for witnesses following disorder in Oxford city centre.

Officers were called just after 6.15pm on Saturday (19 September), to reports of a fight involving two groups of men in Frideswide Square, outside Domino’s Pizza.

There were also reports of an earlier fight in Becket Street.

Police believe the disorder involved rival supporters following the Oxford United v Cambridge United fixture.

The majority of the group involved are described as white men and were wearing dark clothing, with a number covering their faces.

No arrests have been made at this stage.

Investigating officer DC Bryan Groves said: “We are carrying out enquiries to identify those involved and would like to hear from anyone who witnessed either incident.

“These incidents took place in a busy part of the city centre, and there were a number of members of the public nearby. We know some people appeared to be filming the disorder, and there were also vehicles passing through the area as the fight moved into the road and caused disruption.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone with mobile phone footage, dashcam recordings or any other video that may have captured either incident or those involved before or afterwards.”
