A woman in her 40s has died following a serious five-vehicle collision on the A605 in the early hours of Sunday (November 8).

Emergency services were called to the road between Warmington and Elton at approximately 1.30am following a collision involving two cars and two heavy goods vehicles (HGVs).

The incident involved a BMW 2 Series travelling towards Thrapston and a BMW X6 heading in the opposite direction towards Peterborough, which collided.

Two HGV drivers travelling towards Peterborough stopped at the scene to offer assistance. However, while the vehicles were stationary, a Kia Ceed collided with the BMW 2 Series.

Tragically, the driver of the BMW X6, a woman in her 40s, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the BMW 2 Series, a man in his 20s, suffered serious injuries and has since been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Both HGV drivers were also injured in the subsequent collision involving the Kia Ceed, with one sustaining serious injuries. A passenger travelling in the Kia suffered minor injuries.

The A605 has since reopened following the incident.

Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for witnesses to come forward as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the collision.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash-cam footage that could assist the investigation is urged to contact police.
