West Northamptonshire residents are being invited to take part in the Book Bingo reading challenge launching in LibraryPlus libraries.

The free challenge, aimed at library users aged 18 and over, is part of the National Year of Reading and funded by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

The council says it's designed to boost literacy, encourage reading for pleasure, and inspire more people to explore their local library service.

Instead of sticking to particular genres, readers can interpret each theme in their own way whether it’s fiction, non-fiction, magazines, newspapers, eBooks, or audiobooks.

Participants earn a stamp for each challenge they complete and can return their completed card to enter a prize draw for a £50 book token.

The idea behind Book Bingo is to get adults reading more frequently, discover new authors and formats, build reading confidence, and highlight the big impact reading has on wellbeing, learning, and community connection.

Councillor Charlie Hastie, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities at West Northamptonshire Council, highlighted reading's power to educate and improve wellbeing:

“Reading has the power to educate, inspire and improve wellbeing, and our libraries play a vital role in helping residents access books, information and opportunities to learn."

He added, "Book Bingo is a fun and engaging challenge that encourages people to try something new, discover different authors and formats, and enjoy all that our LibraryPlus service has to offer."
