A local charity-run attraction say they're extremely saddened and disappointed after thousands of pounds of equipment was stolen.

Stanwick Lakes say the items were taken during a break in early on Thursday 23rd October between between 12.45am and 1.10am.

It's thought three people broke into two containers and stolen £19,000 pounds, including essential tools and a Kawasaki Mule buggy. Items also included a nail gun, three chainsaws and a leaf blower.

The Wellingborough venue say in a statement the equipment that has been taken will prevent work that is vital to the existence of the site as a protected place:

"Our team is doing everything possible to manage today and the short term but it’s a huge setback for the charity, both practically and financially. Frankly, it’s exhausting to be targeted like this by criminal and anti-social behaviour on an ongoing basis."

They say the site was still open yesterday with some police presence and asked visitors for their patience.

Stanwick Lakes say they have CCTV on site and have shared relevant footage with Northamptonshire Police. They are working closely with them and the forensics team as they investigate.

The fore are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information should call them on 101 quoting incident number 25000623434.

The charity run venue say they’re grateful for all offers of support during this difficult time, but at this point haven't set up any separate fundraising appeals just yet.

Stanwick Lakes say they remain open and will do everything they can to carry on as normal.
