'Reclaim the Night' march to be held in Wellingborough tonight
The event is part of 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence
Residents, campaigners and local support services will come together in Wellingborough later to protest against sexual harassment and gender-based violence.
The 'Reclaim the Night' march, which has been running since the 1970s, will include speeches and a remembrance event for victims from 6:30pm.
Northamptonshire Rape Crisis are behind the event, having held similar movements in Corby and Northampton in the last week.
CEO Dawn Thomas says the aim is 'to have more conversations about what is healthy, what is a healthy relationship, what is inappropriate, how do you challenge some of the the norms that goes on in society?'
She added: "It's about everybody challenging those inappropriate behaviours. It's calling it out. It's not being offensive, but actually saying is you know that that's not acceptable."
'Reclaim the Night' began in the 1970s when instead of adhering to a curfew during the Peter Sutcliffe murders, women marched the streets calling for safety, for adequate lighting on the streets and adequate police officers patrolling the streets.
Tonight's event will start and finish at Club Palm Beach in Wellingborough, with a short march through the town centre.
Supporters are encouraged to bring their own banners, placards and torches.
