Northamptonshire farmers warned about rise in GPS equipment thefts
Organised criminals target expensive agricultural gear
Farmers in Northamptonshire are being advised to stay alert following a recent increase in the theft of agricultural GPS guidance equipment.
Over the last 10 days, four thefts have been reported involving GPS domes and guidance systems installed on modern tractors and farm machinery.
These specialised satellite devices often cost thousands of pounds and are critical for accurate and efficient farming.
The thefts are believed to be orchestrated by organised criminals who travel to rural areas to target farms at night.
Losing such valuable equipment during the busy agricultural season can halt operations and cause significant financial setbacks.
PC Hutch Hutchings from the Rural Crime Team emphasised the seriousness of these targeted thefts and urged farmers to secure GPS equipment, ensure security measures are active, and report suspicious activity.
Farmers are encouraged to remove GPS domes and screens from machinery, store them securely, and record serial numbers for tracking.
Unfamiliar vehicles and suspicious behaviour should be promptly reported to the police.
Witnesses or those with information can contact Northamptonshire Police.
