A Northamptonshire charity has sent several decommissioned ambulances to the frontline in Ukraine to help soldiers return from war.

Towcester Tove Benefice sent off two local ambulances for Ukraine packed with medical and rehabilitation supplies that have been donated by local hospitals in the UK.

The supplies will be distributed to hospitals and those living in Ukraine who are most in need. After this, the ambulances will stay in Ukraine to be used by paramedics helping to treat soldiers injured during combat.

The initiative is being done in honour of Ukrainian colleague Maryna, who went to the frontline and lost her life in August whilst saving others.

As part of the consignment being given to Ukrainian forces are 4,200 tins of baked beans, as well as a financial donation of £500 to organisers.

A variety of other charities and local authorities including Towcester Town Council and West Northamptonshire Police also contributed to the donations.

In a recent update, the initiative confirmed that the ambulances had made it into Ukraine after being driven across Europe.

Photos uploaded by the charity showed the donations being gifted to the Ukrainian war front, while Russia continues to bombard the country.
