Northamptonshire banger rally raises over £130,000 for baby loss charity
Rust Bucket Rally supports Petals, offering crucial counselling services for families
The Rust Bucket Rally, a charity car challenge based in Northamptonshire, has triumphantly raised over £130,000 for the baby loss counselling charity Petals. Participants journeyed from Wellingborough to Oslo, Norway, in cars costing £1,000 or less, making this year's rally a record-breaking achievement.
Carlos Baldry, the organiser, expressed his delight, saying he was "lost for words" at the rally surpassing the £100,000 donation mark for the first time since its inception in 2014. Baldry commented, “I never thought we'd do this. Not in a million years. To have raised over £100,000... incredible."
Discussing the choice of charity, Baldry explained, "We chose Petals because a friend experienced the devastating impact of baby loss. Seeing firsthand how the counselling they received transformed their life, choosing to support Petals this year was an easy decision."
The 2,500-mile journey drew drivers through Germany, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Sweden before reaching Oslo. From originally 85 cars, 83 vehicles completed the circuit, culminating with the return to Wellingborough's Old Grammarians sports ground. There, participants were celebrated with "silly string and water pistols," showcasing the camaraderie and fun spirit of the event.
Baldry emphasised the rally's impact, stating: ''The funds raised will allow Petals to expand their support services, enabling more parents to access vital counselling therapy during challenging times.''
The Rust Bucket Rally, since its inception, has now raised approximately £750,000 for various charities, with plans for the 2027 event already in place – a new route from Wellingborough to Budapest, Hungary, has been announced.
Reflecting on the rally's success, Baldry noted, "This journey through Europe promotes not just adventure but genuine help for those in need. We're committed to continuing this mission and supporting worthwhile causes in unique ways."
