A 19-year-old man has been sentenced to five years in prison for rape and sexual assault offences that occurred in Northampton last year.

The assault took place in the early hours of 9th August 2025 on Weedon Road, where Toby Coucill, raped a girl in her late teens.

Following the attack, the teenager escaped and reported the incident to Northamptonshire Police.

Subsequent investigations led to Coucill’s arrest and charges of raping a female over 16 and two counts of sexual assault.

Initially, Coucill denied any sexual activity, but later changed his statement to claim consensual sex after forensic evidence was presented.

The trial began on 26th January at Northampton Crown Court and concluded on 6th February, with the jury finding Coucill guilty of all charges.

Detective Constable Chantal Lines of Northamptonshire Police's SOLAR Team, specialises in probing sexual offence cases.

Lines highlighted the survivor’s courage in reporting the crime and testified during the trial.

"Although nothing will ever erase what Toby Coucill did to her, I hope the survivor in this case feels proud that it is because of her bravery in coming forward and taking the stand at court, that a rapist is now behind bars and unable to harm anyone else," Lines said.

“Tackling violence against women and girls remains a priority for Northamptonshire Police and we continue working hard to put more people like Coucill where they belong - behind bars.”
