Northamptonshire is preparing for the return of speedway racing with the formation of the Northampton Foxes.

As a new entrant in the 2026 Speedway Great Britain (SGB) Premiership, the team is set to bring adrenaline-filled events to Northampton International Shaleway, located near Brafield-on-the-Green.

Paul Hunsdon, co-promoter at Northampton Speedway, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “It's a great opportunity for the team to operate out of Northampton, providing residents access to high-quality speedway events at a leading local venue.”

With the loss of nearby tracks in Coventry and Peterborough, the area's speedway fans now have a local team to support. Hunsdon noted, “There was a void in the area after previous track closures. We’re excited to offer fans the chance to experience thrilling speedway races on home turf.”

The Foxes will debut against King's Lynn on 20th April, with their home opener against Ipswich set for 30th April. Preparations are underway to ensure the venue is ready for both stock car and speedway racing, with significant modifications being made.

Community interest has been growing, with Hunsdon confirming strong local support. “We've seen a lot of interest from local residents eager to attend the events. It’s a promising sign for community engagement and local economic impact,” he stated.

Hosting approximately 12 events throughout the season, the team aims to boost local tourism and provide family-friendly entertainment spanning all ages. Hunsdon addressed the wider impact, saying, “We're reaching out to local businesses with sponsorship opportunities, encouraging them to participate by offering experiences such as VIP access for their employees.”

Although the organisation faced challenges with timing, substantial investments have been made to transform the venue for the upcoming season. Hunsdon shared long-term goals, adding, “Stakeholders and shareholders have committed resources to develop the track as a speedway venue. Our aim is to establish Northampton as a top speedway club nationally.”
