Northampton General Hospital expands electronic patient records
New departments join the shift from paper to digital systems
Northampton General Hospital is advancing its transition from traditional paper notes to electronic patient records, with significant progress as the system expands into new areas.
The system, powered by Nervecentre, initially launched in June 2025, continues to grow, incorporating additional hospital departments and functions to digitalise patient information.
As of Monday, 24th August 2026, five new functionalities have gone live, further consolidating patient care information into a secure digital platform.
The departments that transitioned include the Patient Administration System (PAS), Outpatient Services, Investigations (pathology and radiology), Virtual wards (for off-site patient monitoring), and several Care Plans and Assessments.

“By bringing information together and making it more accessible at the point of care, we can reduce fragmented processes, improve communication and support better-informed clinical decisions.
“Technology is an important enabler of that ambition, but the real value comes from how our people use it to improve the way care is delivered.”
This digital migration involves 24 million patient records, encompassing two years' worth of medical information, marking a first for the Nervecentre PAS on its cloud platform.
The goal is to centralise patient information, offering healthcare professionals instant access to updated care records.
