New Playground for children in hospital will be 'breath of fresh air'
Inclusive and accessible spaces are part of the plans.
Northamptonshire Health Charity is fundraising for a new play area to bring joy to children in hospital - with accessible and inclusive spaces part of the plans.
They hope to kick off construction in the summer but are eighty thousand pounds short of their two hundred and seventy five thousand target.
Children of all ages and abilities are treated on the Disney and Paddington Wards, with some undergoing chemotherapy and others receiving care in the Paediatric Assessment Unit. However the charity feel the current outdoor play facilities are outdated an inaccessible.
Tanya Hadji Miller works at the charity and tells us about the tough reality for young people receiving treatment:
"We have kids who are stuck in a hospital bed for months on end, staring at the same four walls and their siblings just sit by their bedside during visiting hours."
"The new playground will be wheelchair accessible. It's going to be wonderfully children themed and with new pieces of play equipment."
"To be able to give patients access to that fresh air every single day really helps with their mental health."
"We hope it will help the kids and parents visiting their children as well."
