Oldfield steps down as Northampton Town Women’s manager
The Cobblers boss led team to historic promotions and three county cup wins.
Josh Oldfield has left his position as manager of Northampton Town Women after six years in charge.
It's following a spell that saw the team achieve historic successes in the women’s football pyramid.
Oldfield took the helm in 2019 and oversaw the club’s rise to the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands, guiding the Cobblers to promotion to the fourth tier with an unbeaten campaign in 2021/22.
During his tenure, Northampton Town Women also celebrated three Northamptonshire FA Women's Cup titles—in 2022, 2024, and 2025—each time defeating local rivals Peterborough United in the final.
In the most recent season, Oldfield helped the team reach their highest-ever league finish when they placed second in the FAWNL Division One Midlands in 2024/25.
Scott Loughran, Head of Women's Football Operations at Northampton Town, said: "Josh has been a hugely important figure in our fantastic progress over the last few years"
Oldfield said: “While I am sad to be leaving the role, I feel it’s the right time for all involved, including my young family. It has been an honour and a privilege. I have loved every minute over the last six years - the tough times and the amazing memories. I am incredibly proud of the way we have helped move female football at Northampton Town forward such a long way."
The club has begun the process of recruiting and shortlisting candidates for the next Northampton Town Women’s first team manager.
