A 39-year-old man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after pleading guilty to knife-related offences.
Kieran O’Brian was arrested in Irthlingborough following reports on the afternoon of 23rd September last year that he was seen with a knife on Archfield Terrace.
During the course of his arrest, O’Brian headbutted one of the police officers, although fortunately, no lasting injuries occurred.
The knife was located and confiscated by the police.
Previously residing in Irthlingborough, O’Brian faced multiple charges including assaulting a constable in the line of duty, threatening with a knife blade, possession of a knife blade, and affray.
He pled guilty to these charges at Northampton Crown Court in September 2025.
He was sentenced to two years and five months in prison at the same court earlier this year on 27th May.
Sergeant Ryan Hegarty commented, “Knife crime has a serious impact on our communities and will not be tolerated. Carrying a knife in public places puts lives at risk, and incidents like this can quickly escalate into something far more serious."
He added, "O’Brian’s behaviour, including assaulting an officer while being arrested, was completely unacceptable. Thankfully, no one was seriously injured.
“We will continue to take robust action against those who choose to carry knives and use violence, and I hope this sentence reassures the public that offenders will be brought before the courts and held accountable for their actions.”
