Police give update on Wellingborough murder investigation

Detectives have been granted more time to interview a man they arrested in connection with a man's death on Sunday.

Police have given an update on a murder investigation in Wellingborough after a man died in the town on Sunday.

Police were called to Birchfield Road at just after 3 o'clock on Sunday afternoon to reports of a man being stabbed. Despite the efforts of the emergency services, a man believed to be 38-year-old Darren King from Wellingborough, died at the scene.

A short time later, police arrested two 20-year-old men on suspicion of murder.

Officers have now been given additional time to interview one of the men. The second man has been released with no further action taken against him.

Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Inspector Cheryl Thompson, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This continues to be a fast-paced investigation as we work to establish what happened during this incident."

“One man remains in custody this evening, with the second having been released with no further action being taken against him."

“We are still keen to hear from anyone with information about what happened yesterday, who has not yet come forward, to please do so.”
