The move follows a record number of responses to a public consultation, with residents urging the authority to keep parking free.

Plans to introduce car parking charges in Daventry, Brackley and Towcester have been dropped by West Northamptonshire Council.

It's dropped proposals to bring in charges after more than 3,000 people responded to a public consultation.

WNC had been considering introducing parking charges to the three towns as part of a range of fees and charges proposals for its 2026/27 budget-setting process.

WNC says it continues to face rising costs and growing demand for services, particularly in adult social care and children’s services, beginning the budget process earlier this year with an anticipated £50 million shortfall for 2026/27.

The final budget, including a council tax rise of nearly five percent, will be decided at a meeting Thursday (26 February).
