Eleven drivers penalised for filming A14 collision near Cranford
Drivers receive fines and points for recording accident scene
Eleven drivers have been penalised for filming the aftermath of a serious collision involving three HGVs on the A14 near Cranford last September.
The collision took place shortly before 8am on 15th September 2025, on the westbound carriageway between junctions 10 and 9.
One HGV driver was hospitalised with a serious leg injury, while the two other drivers escaped unharmed.
During the incident's aftermath, 11 drivers recorded the scene on their mobile phones as they travelled along the eastbound carriageway.
These individuals received prosecution notices shortly after being identified at the scene.
The magistrates have since sentenced them, with all receiving six penalty points on their driving licences.
Two of them, a 40-year-old man from Leicester and a 46-year-old woman from Burton Latimer, faced six-month disqualifications due to points accumulation.
Fines ranged from £232 to £1,266.
PC James Condon from the Roads Policing Team commented, “Filming any road traffic collision when you are driving is not only dangerous, but also highly insensitive, so I am pleased to see these people prosecuted.”
Condon stressed the importance of making responsible choices, noting the tragic statistic that 26 people lost their lives on Northamptonshire roads in 2025.
He hopes this case will lead to more mindful decisions by drivers in future incidents.
