A disqualified driver has been jailed after speeding past police on Christmas Day while over the legal alcohol limit.

Tinashe Maenzanise, 46, of Beech Drive, Wellingborough, was stopped by officers after travelling at 82mph on the A14 near Swavesey just after midnight on 25th December.

Maenzanise slowed to under 50mph behind another marked police vehicle but failed to provide a breath test at the roadside.

Two hours later, he gave an evidential sample of 68 micrograms of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, which is nearly double the legal limit of 35.

Checks revealed he had been disqualified from driving for 36 months in March 2025.

At Northampton Magistrates’ Court on 22nd January, Maenzanise was sentenced to 12 weeks in prison after pleading guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, speeding, and drink driving.

He was also banned from driving for a further three years.

PC Matt Panks from the Road Policing Unit said the driver’s actions posed a “clear risk” to others.

“Maenzanise chose to drive on Christmas Day despite being disqualified, uninsured and over the legal alcohol limit,” Panks said.

“His actions were irresponsible and posed a clear risk to other road users.

"We will continue to take robust action against those who ignore driving bans and put lives at risk on our roads.”
