Council backs Daventry Town FC plans for £600,000 artificial pitch
West Northamptonshire Council has approved a 25-year lease extension helping the club secure funding for new facilities
West Northamptonshire Council has approved a new lease agreement for Daventry Town Football Club (DTFC), providing a 25-year lease at Browns Road to help the club secure investment for facility enhancement.
The approval, granted at a cabinet meeting on 16th July, allows DTFC to seek external funding to develop a £600,000 third generation artificial pitch.
While the club's existing lease was due to expire in 2038, external investors often require longer-term leases of 21 or 25 years to consider funding opportunities.
Cllr John Slope, Cabinet Member for Finance and Resources, highlighted the benefits of the initiative:
"West Northamptonshire Council actively promotes health and wellbeing, and this initiative will support the development of local sporting provision for the benefit of local residents in Daventry."
To proceed, DTFC must achieve the relevant planning permissions and successfully complete the artificial pitch installation.
Councillor Kamala Guliyeva, Cabinet Member for Local Economy, Culture and Leisure, expressed support:
"Daventry Town Football Club is valued by the local community, and I am delighted West Northamptonshire Council has been able to support an extension on their lease so they can seek investment for improved sporting facilities."
The Council say it is committed to working closely with the club to finalise lease arrangements in the upcoming months.
