A motorcyclist who put members of the public at risk by riding dangerously through Northampton town centre, including pedestrian areas and a busy recreation park, has been jailed.

Dylan Sedgeley, aged 26, of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court after admitting a string of driving offences, including driving a motor vehicle dangerously, driving without insurance and a licence. He also admitted possession of Class A drugs.

The court sentenced Sedgeley to 10 months' imprisonment for dangerous driving, to run consecutively to a possession of a knife offence and disqualified him from driving for 36 months.

The hearing was told that at about 2.30pm on Tuesday, August 12, 2025, police received reports of a black motorcycle being ridden through the pedestrianised area of Northampton's Market Square.

The motorcycle was not displaying a registration plate and was carrying both a rider and passenger, creating a significant risk to the public.

Roads Policing officers quickly located the motorcycle in Northampton and followed it as it continued to be ridden dangerously through residential and pedestrian areas, including Far Cotton Recreation Ground where children and families were present. The pursuit continued to Pleydell Road, where the two occupants briefly got off the motorcycle before attempting to ride away.

Due to the ongoing danger posed to pedestrians and other road users, officers used tactical contact to bring the incident to a safe conclusion. The tactic enabled officers to safely stop the motorcycle and prevent any further risk to the public.

The motorcycle was stopped after it mounted a kerb and was pinned against a fence, preventing it from being driven any further.

Sedgeley was arrested at the scene and his passenger, Sean Prosser, aged 31, was arrested nearby after attempting to leave the area on foot.

Police Constable Tom Williams from Northamptonshire Police Roads Policing Team, said: "Sedgeley's actions that day showed a complete disregard for the safety of other road users and pedestrians. He rode through busy public areas, including a recreation ground where children and families were present, putting people at unnecessary risk.

"Our officers are trained to make difficult decisions when balancing the risks posed by offenders against the need to protect the public. In this case, tactical contact was used to safely bring a dangerous situation to an end.

"We hope this sentence sends a clear message that dangerous driving will not be tolerated and that we will take robust action against those who put others at risk."
