Controlled explosion carried out after smoke grenade found in Wellingborough

It was found in the River Nene on Saturday morning.

The Embankment in Wellingborough has reopened following the controlled detonation of a smoke grenade.

The grenade was found in the River Nene on Saturday morning (28/06) by a member of the public who called police at 11.50am.

An assessment of the device was completed by the EOD, and a controlled explosion of the grenade took place in a field alongside the Embankment.

The incident has now concluded and the road reopened Northamptonshire Police say there is no wider risk to members of the public.

Officers are thanking everyone for their patience and support it responded to the incident.
