A 36-year-old man who murdered his wife at their home in Burton Latimer has been sentenced to life imprisonment.

Paul Knight strangled his wife, Isobella "Izzy" Knight, on 13th June 2025 in their house on Donnington Road while their two young daughters slept.

Northampton Crown Court heard how the victim had decided to end the marriage, telling friends that Knight treated her badly and actively searching for new properties prior to the murder. The couple had been sleeping in separate rooms.

Before and after killing his wife, Knight consumed cocaine, which fed his addiction to the Class A drug and contributed to ongoing financial troubles within the household.

The following morning, Knight asked his mother to care for their children, claiming that he and his wife were unwell. He then attempted to take his own life but instead crashed his car in the McDonald’s car park nearby.

Police responding to the crash grew suspicious of Knight’s behaviour and decided to search his home, where they discovered the victim's body.

A suicide note written by Knight was found on a hallway table, stating, “If you’re reading this, I have killed myself and Izzy. I really didn’t mean to kill her. I am truly sorry but it’s due to having an addiction to cocaine and spending money I don’t have.”

Knight was arrested at the scene and later charged with murder.

Although he initially entered a plea of not guilty, Knight admitted to the crime at Northampton Crown Court on 8th January 2026. He was sentenced on 29th January to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 17 years and one month.

Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Team commented on the conviction, saying, “No sentence will ever make up for the loss of such a wonderful woman, but I am pleased that Paul Knight has been jailed with no hope of release until he is in his 50s.

“This is an absolutely tragic case of violence against a woman who had so many good things ahead of her. She was an amazing mum, much-loved by her family and friends, and did everything she could to live life to its fullest.

“Her life has been cut short in the most dreadful and unfair circumstances, and my thoughts will remain with everyone who loved her for a long time to come.”
