Andy Cox tackles 200km run challenge for road safety charity
Detective Chief Superintendent raises awareness and funds for Brake
Detective Chief Superintendent Andy Cox from Northamptonshire Police is approaching the halfway mark of his 200km running challenge aimed at raising awareness of road danger and supporting Brake, a road safety charity.
The challenge, spanning seven days, seeks to spotlight the profound impacts of road deaths and serious injuries, while generating funds for Brake.
Brake is dedicated to supporting victims, bereaved families, and advocating for safer roads.
Previously completing a similar endeavour four years ago, Andy is driven by the need to keep road safety issues prominent.
He noted: "During the course of this challenge, more than 30 people across the UK will lose their lives in road collisions. Every one of those deaths is preventable."
Andy acknowledged the physical demands of the challenge, exacerbated by the current hot weather and drought conditions across half the UK.
Despite some setbacks, he emphasised the effort signifies the lasting challenges victims' families face: "It didn't feel right to do something easy."
Throughout his run, Andy has shared insights on road use and human behaviour, noting: "Sometimes impatience and poor decisions can have life-changing consequences."
Andy hopes increased awareness can encourage safer driving behaviours and reinforce Northamptonshire Police's dedication to reducing road deaths and injuries.
He expressed optimism for road safety improvements: "Through education, enforcement, technology, and partnership, we can make our roads safer and prevent tragedies."
