Kettering gallery reopens with first major exhibition in six years
Local art scene springs back to life with Alfred East Gallery relaunch
Alfred East Gallery in Kettering is set to fully reopen to the public from 10am on Saturday, 24th October, marking the end of an extensive six-year renovation process.
The reopening will feature live music, children's activities, and a showcase event supported by the Friends of the Art Gallery & Museum.
Visitors can visit the gallery's first significant exhibition in six years titled "Faces and Places." The exhibition will reintroduce select artworks from Kettering's collection, bringing popular pieces out from storage.
Additional exhibits will celebrate local creativity during the gallery's closure, including decorated Collyweston slates from the Tag-a-Tile event and mini canvasses created during KettFest.
The Kate Pierce studio will offer a day filled with workshops for young artists inspired by Thomas Cooper Gotch's renowned painting "Golden Youth."
Following the reopening, Northamptonshire Day on Sunday 25th October will feature live performances, more art exhibits, and creative stations, transforming the gallery into a hub of family-friendly fun.
Councillor Martin Griffiths, Leader of the Council, said: "The Art Gallery, alongside the Library, is at the heart of Kettering and has been well-loved by residents for generations.
''Now, we are entering a new era for the Gallery that is still linked back to the heritage and history of the area and it’s only right that we celebrate this."
