York Station Gateway enters final phase with phased road closures
Night closures planned as project nears completion around York Station
Today marks the beginning of the final phase of the York Station Gateway project, commencing with a series of phased roadworks aimed at enhancing infrastructure around the station area.
Starting on Monday, 1st June, the works will continue until the morning of Friday, 5th June, with night time road closures scheduled from 8:00pm to 6:00am each weekday.
These nighttime closures are necessary for completing highway works and integrating cycle lanes.
Station Road will reopen every morning at 6:00am to minimise daytime disruptions.
Additional works will restrict vehicle access to Tea Room Square from 5th June to 7th June to facilitate surfacing improvements.
Access to Tea Room Square will be restored by Monday, 8th June.
The final phase includes phase 2 from 8th June to 12th June, and phase 3 from 15th June to 19th June, with additional access changes planned from 22nd June to 26th June.
Alternative Blue Badge parking is available near the South Train Shed.
York Station remains operational, ensuring both train and pedestrian access.
Buses will continue to operate, though some routes may change due to road closures, supplemented by shuttle buses between affected areas.
The City of York Council advises those travelling to plan ahead and consider alternate routes, expecting congestion on the inner ring road during closures.
Updates and travel information are regularly provided to assist commuters, businesses, and visitors in navigating the area during the project's concluding phase.
