Yorkshire Water workers have begun carrying out surveys in Sandybed for a new water infrastructure project.

The company is planning to build a service reservoir, a new water storage facility, off Lightfoots Lane.

It'll store treated drinking water before it's supplied to homes and businesses.

Yorkshire Water says the new facility will replace an existing reservoir off Springhill Lane and improve the reliability of water supplies in the area.

Engineers and contractors are currently carrying out surveys, including ecological checks, drainage inspections and investigations to locate underground pipes and cables.

Residents in the area can expect to see more workers and vehicles in the area while the surveys take place.

Cat Smart, project manager at Yorkshire Water, said: "This is one of many important projects across the region that will help us to continue servicing the local area with clean water reliably.

"Before we start the project, we need to complete detailed surveys to gather information about the area we'll be working in so we can work as quickly as possible, effectively, and in the right way."

She added: "People will be seeing a bit more of us than usual around Sandybed, but we're going to be doing everything we can to keep disruption to a minimum."

The reservoir is hoped to be built in 2027.

The surveys are expected to take around two weeks to complete.
