She's been hailed a hero
A York police officer has been hailed a hero after arresting two violent suspects wanted for more than 40 offences.
A 19-year-old man and a 30-year-old man were taken into custody after resisting arrest and assaulting the officer.
The offences include burglary, possession of Class A drugs and theft of unattended motor vehicles.
It happened yesterday (16 July) at around 9.10pm when we were called to reports of a man on a roof being chased by other men near the Punchbowl pub on Lowther Street.
He was initially detained by members of the public, who reporting a house burglary. When our officer arrived to arrest the 19-year-old, he resisted and tried to run away, he pushed the officer and hit her in the face, but she didn't give in. A kind member of the public assisted, and it wasn't long before he was in the police van and on his way to custody.
Then just after this, the same officer recognised a man connected to the previous arrest, and who was also wanted in relation to various offences. When trying to arrest the 30-year-old, he also resisted with violence.
Despite being pushed, kneed, hit in the head and put into a headlock, the officer successfully detained the man while backup arrived at the scene.
Along with their other suspected crimes, they were both further arrested for assaulting an emergency worker.
Both men remain in custody for questioning.
