As North Yorkshire prepares for the start of the motorbike season, a dedicated high-visibility digital display truck will debut on Sunday, 29th March 2026 to deliver crucial road safety messages to motorcyclists.

The county is expected to see a substantial increase in riders enjoying the picturesque roads, spanning 6,000 miles, with more than 400 participants in the Squires Egg Run from Squires Café near Selby to Pickering.

The digital display truck will travel the route, highlighting safe riding practices, pre-ride checks, and shared road safety responsibilities among all road users.

These initiatives aim to serve as visible, proactive reminders emphasizing the importance of road safety as the season commences.

Accompanying the truck, York and North Yorkshire Road Safety partnership trailer, police motorbikes, and support cars will be present on Sunday.

Inspector Clive Turner of North Yorkshire Police’s Roads Policing Group remarked on the significance: “The start of the biking season is always an exciting time, but sadly it’s also when we tend to see an increase in serious collisions."

The high visibility approach seeks to engage riders with clear and vital safety messages, promoting the goal of safe and enjoyable journeys.

Motorcyclists are disproportionately represented in road KSIs (killed and seriously injured statistics), with notable figures from 2024 highlighting the risks faced by male riders, who account for 92% of casualties.

Nearly 69% of motorcycle fatalities occurred on rural roads between 2020 and 2024.

North Yorkshire Police’s Road Safety Team collaborates with the biking community, striving to reduce collisions and enhance road safety for the region.

“This Sunday’s activity marks the launch of our wider engagement plan with the motorcycle community for the busy summer months ahead,” Inspector Turner added, welcoming interactions at stopping points along the route.

Enjoy the ride, embrace the scenery, and let’s work together to ensure safe journeys for all riders and road users this weekend and throughout the season.
